A Labelled Diagram Of A Viking Longboat

IS BACK! OWL

Ladies And Gentleman, you all know without a doubt the genius of Thomas Carnacki , Ghostbusters the early twentieth century, occult detective created by our beloved William Hope Hodgson . Righter of wrongs paranormal, the paranormal investigators legendary lineage that began with the Hesselius of Le Fanu , Van Helsing continued , Flaxman Low, Conrad and Kirow , Harry Dickson and 200 more, and that keeps on giving currently off (or are not the same thing people like Dylan Dog or John Constantine comic book). The good news is we're a few days before that it never releases Valdemar Laureate back in the Gothic library complete adventures of Mr. Carnacki. And to do nothing better to recycle an old article about it (holy vagueness). Discontinued

in Spain since that legendary edition Ultima Thule. Here the cover of the new edition, so atmosphere "exorcistera"

Before "The Country of the Night" , William Hodgson was writing stories for magazines of all kinds-adventure, mystery, even comedians - among which is the series on Carnacki, the supernatural detective joins incunabula esoteric superstition to modern science to combat occult mysteries (ghosts of animals , monsters, events "poltergeist" , etc ...), of which more than one occasion manages to extract a rational explanation. Of course not needed maritime mystery "The Haunted Jarvee" , a strange fog that haunts the ship of the title. And also get a pig-like spirit in "The Hog" like beasts lurking in "The House on the Edge of the Earth" , the famous story by Lovecraft, Lovecraftian. Carnacki as character shares some features with John Silence of Blackwood, one of the first researchers literary spirits, and is just one of the forerunners of the many detectives of the occult that proliferated in the pulp magazines of the early century with Jules de Grandin (created by Seabury Quinn ) to the head. His stories always have the same structure: the eccentric Carnacki after one of their missions invites a select group of friends to a dinner featuring his latest research and those who give off a "out you go" after recount the details of the case.

is undeniable that this structure has also closed some aroma "holmesiano." Related to this, we must mention the story that early in the seventies, a television series produced in the United Kingdom and entitled "The Rivals of Sherlock Holmes" , adapted for 26
episodes, a story a literary detective who had been a contemporary of Arthur Conan Doyle and his immortal creation. Carnacki also had an episode, which adapted adventure "The Horse Of The Invisible" - and in which the detective of the occult was played by Donald Pleasance. Other signs of the popularity of the character are the existence of a book pastiche published in 1992: "No. 472 Cheyne Walk: Carnacki, the Untold Stories " with new cases posted by AF Kidd and Ri ck Kennett style of the many adventures " apocryphal " of Holmes himself. We should also mention that Carnacki listed as a member of "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" in the third installment of this magnificent series of Alan Moore .

Donald Pleasence playing Carnacki on TV.

Carnacki, a member of the League of Moore .

So, to scratch their pockets because, after waiting a long time, we almost have the complete works of Mr. Hodgson in Castilian. And Valdemar has already confirmed that "The Kingdom of the Night" full edition also end up falling. And just missing the rest of the stories there were still scattered published in an edition of miscellany, to be at an end to Hodgson in full in the language of Cervantes, but if it is true that what has already been published (and reprinted) attached to the future "Kingdom ..." we would have all the essentials of the British author.

Gaurenteed Bonds Anglo Irish Bank

Lovecraftian

Lords judges, we are about to judge a bad case of what might be called a sovereign TIMO Lovecraftian.

Defendant: "The shuttered Room" (Here wonderfully titled "Why do you cry, Susan?" ) a film of Troy Shenck released in 1966.

Reasons for the prosecution: To begin with is not even based on a story Lovecraft, but "The Closed Room" : one of the pastiches of August Derleth, executor spiritual and posthumous editor HP Lovecraft, as well as the perpetrator of many successes and occasional outrage with his legacy pal, as in the present case, to pass by a "posthumous collaboration" what ideas were merely aimed at vuelapluma by Lovecraft-sometimes a single sentence, and that Mr. August turned into a story. Their stories atmospheric-based pulperos Myths Chluhu (or as they write that, I have no desire to see wikipedia) are fun and appreciated the reduction in density with respect to those who sometimes wrote HP is welcome, "but after all the movie just respect the name of the original story (and in Spain or that).

Second and more important reason: The story, which counts as a couple returns to hometown to reunite with Mrs. nightmare hidden in the attic that small-racked, but begins with some touches own Providence Writer, things quickly diluted into a psychedelic sixties mixed with disturbing echoes of the "nouvelle vague" . Under a bright picture varnish and flat boring day is long, spiced by an absurd -E-music irritating free-jazz trumpeter, we found a bleak picture of bikers, candy spider, martial arts fights, so terrifying supernatural threats as a bunch of drunken legs and a kind of witch with live eagle mascot in a disaster ... Lighthouse! -Over to daylight, always. All of which does evaporate any kind of sinister atmosphere, scary or just mysterious that no argument could have. And for more derision, primeval monster that lived in the attic in Derleth's story, here proves to be a borderline sister prota, which were locked at the top of the house to prevent damage done with every living creature that crossed. Where is Jane Eyre when needed?

Oh, and Oliver Reed out on paper rather stupid and a look at what Dani Martin of El Canto del Loco . No Comments.

Verdict: Details as a rowdy biker planted argument, lovebirds prudes, saxophone jam sessions, girls in bikinis and beach snack bar atmosphere, let us not doubt that, in effect, we before a glorious (at the same lamentable) TIMO Lovecraftian.

accept no substitutes.
